Changes That Began In 2024

We have had nine successful years introducing many girls and their families to aviation and aerospace with the Girls Take Flight Expo at the Oshawa Executive Airport. In 2023, more than 1600 people attended. Over the last ten years, more than 1300 women and girls have received a free discovery flight in a small airplane, thanks to the pilots who donated their aircraft and fuel.

Starting in 2024, we made a significant and exciting change. While the majority of the discovery flights take place in April at the Oshawa Airport, Girls Take Flight as we have come to know it ‑ including the expo, speaker program, static aircraft display and some discovery flights ‑ now takes place at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in the fall.

While the event has always been a great success, we wanted to bring Girls Take Flight to new heights. With Toronto City Centre Airport presenting the Expo, it can continue to grow for years to come. Toronto City Airport is accessible for many in the Greater Toronto Area, so we are able to connect with even more young women and girls who may be considering a future career in aviation. Attendance in 2024 was estimated to be 3700 people.

Take a FREE Discovery Flight in a general aviation aircraft:

• For girls and women, aged 8 and older
• Only for those who have never, ever flown in a small aircraft before
• Signed liability waiver is required
• Must register on-line in advance to fly

Your Hosts

Girls Take Flight Oshawa is an event hosted by the First Canadian Chapter of the Ninety-Nines and Durham Flight Centre to introduce girls and women to aviation.

Volunteers

This event is run entirely by volunteers.

Pilots donate their fuel and aircraft for girls and women who have never been for a flight in a small aircraft.

There is parking along Keith Ross Drive.

Also, watch for signs indicating parking availability at local businesses.

There is also a large parking lot at the Main Terminal on Airport Blvd.

Girls Take Flight Toronto Expo

The Girls Take Flight Expo will take place at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in the fall.

It will include career presentations by women working in the industry, static aircraft display, discovery flights and exhibitors representing all segments of aerospace and aviation.

Girls Take Flight Ottawa

The Rockcliffe Flying Club is hoping to plan a Girls Take Flight Day at the Canada Aviation And Space Museum on September 6, 2025 (rain date Sunday). Details to come.
